Anyone have an allergic reaction to Strawberries?
-
I have eaten strawberries my whole life, you know, in moderation on occasion. I recently began eating strawberries every day in my cereal for breakfast. After about a week of daily consumption of the strawberries, I developed a rash on my arm that is itchy as can be and slightly bumpy, and now it is spreading and beginning on my other arm. If I just stop eating the strawberries, will the rash go away or does anyone who had this happen to them know that I need to see a doctor. Other than the rash, I feel just fine after taking an antihistamine to relieve the itching. Nothing else in my life has changed and I am on no medications. I would kick myself in the butt if I went to the doctor and he just said "stop eating strawberries", which I have already done as of yesterday.

Answer:
If you are allergic to strawberries, the answer is to stop eating strawberries. But a doctor could help you figure out if you really are allergic to strawberries. You can test this yourself by avoiding strawberries until the rash is clear, and then eat a bowl of strawberries. Keep an antihistamine like benadryl on hand. If your throat starts itching or closing, take the benadryl. People get weird reactions on their skin all the time. A one-time rash on one forearm does not suggest a food allergy.

My daughter is 17 & in the last year has developed an allergy to pineapples. Her lips get really puffy & her lips crack. The last time the swelling lasted 3 days! It was so bad her older college brother even asked what she had done to her mouth, and he notices nothing! It can be scary because an allergy can develop at anytime.
