Can you have a wheat allergy and not have Celiac disease?

Does anybody here have Celiac Disease? (Wheat Allergy)?

  • Well, I am allergic to wheat....I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there with this allergy!!!

  • Answer:

I have celiac disease, as does my father, as did his mother. My dad has a website that has lots of info... www.sensibleceliac.com Just an FYI- celiac is actually not a true allergy to wheat (and barley and rye) but an autoimmune reaction to gluten- but in the end, it works out the same. We can't eat it. You are NOT alone... as many as 1:133 americans have celiac disease, many go undiagnosed.

my grandmother was diagnosed with the disease about three years ago. And she has found several new recipes and menu items that are "gluten" free. She actually was a bit overweight and has since gone down to a healthy size. She feels healthier and more active. Of course there is the negative points. No more bread, pasta , etc. But dont get discouraged there are several bakeries that are no offering "gluten free" items. Try them out they are not half bad!
