Why am I allergic to white chocolate but not to dark chocolate?

I'm allergic to dark chocolate, does white chocolate have the same ingredients?and could I eat it?

  • I don't know if it is the coco in the dark chocolate or what, I don't like nor drink coco, so could it be the coco that I am allergic too?

  • Answer:

It all depends on what is in chocolate that is causing the reaction. What kind of a reaction do you get - hives? If you really want to test & see if you can eat white chocolate the best bet is to talk with your doctor. Other than that, you can do what I do: wait about 2 weeks and avoid all foods during that time that cause allergy problems. Be ready with three items: your white chocolate, a dose of Benedryl (or like product) and a friend. Eat the chocolate, if you have a reaction take the Benedryl & it will help. Have your friend there in case it gets too bad so they can take you to the hospital emergency room. BEWARE: just because you don't react the first time doesn't mean that your body won't react on down the line sometime. Foods I have eaten for years without a problem will just suddenly cause massive hives all over my body. If you've ever had a problem breathing when you have an allergic reaction to ANYTHING - do NOT try this, go talk to a doctor or avoid the food completely.

There's only way to find out: Test it on yourself. Maybe rub it on your skin first, then taste a little. White Chocolate is the natural fat from the cacao bean with the cocoa removed. Maybe it's the cocoa that affects you. Not enough is known yet.

when you clean your body from allergy. try white c. it does not contain coco

There is no such thing as white chocolate, per se. It is NOT chocolate at all, but a mixture of fats, milk, and other ingredients. It has NO cocoa in it, thus it is not chocolate at all. They merely call it that for the sake of a name. Most people who are allergic to real chocolate (the coca bean) are allergic to both dark and milk chocolate.

It might well be the cocoa: White chocolate has slightly different ingredients from dark. I don't know if you can eat it or not. A doctor's test should be able to answer that with some degree of safety.

Tigger

maybe you are alergic to "chocolate liquor" its the ingrediant in dark and milk chocolate. It is not used in white chocolate though.
