Why does a nose run when you have a cold?

Why does your nose run when you get in a cold place?

  • I work in a cooler, and my nose doesn't run until I get in there, What triggers this? Is this the cold environment and why?

  • Answer:

your nose has to heat inhaled air to body temperature. In a colder environment there has to be more blood flow to the turbinates to generate enough heat to accomplish this. one side effect of more blood flow is increased fluid/drainage from the nose.

Other answers

I think its the fact that the cooler air is dryer than normal air would be. When your nose tissue gets dry, the body sends stuff to rescue the mucous membranes so they won't crack.
