How do you eat wheat, gluten and dairy free at a wedding?

Every time I eat oatmeal or wheat products I get gassy. Does this happen to any of you?

  • I'm currently being worked up for Celiac Disease: Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is found mainly in foods but may also be found in everyday products such as medicines, vitamins, and lip balms. I'm also lactose intolerant but I can eat certain dairy products like Ben & Jerry's ice cream (My absolute favorite!) I no longer use milk in my oatmeal. I use water and I still bloat like a Goodyear Blimp. I like eating Wheat Ritz crackers, Wheat Thins, Kashi, and granola. It's healthy but I bloat when eating these food items. I can handle being lactose intolerant. Being gluten intolerant on top of lactose intolerance? ( o _ 0 ) That's just too much. Lot's of people have serious food allergies with life threatening consequences. I consider myself lucky in that respect.

Sorry about that honey. I know how that is. Boogie has to eat carefully cause she has bleeding ulcers. I am bordering on ulcerative colitis which is no bowl of cherries. You will have to monitor your diet carefully, maize (corn), quinoa, millet, sorghum, chia seed, and rice are safe to consume. Non-cereal carbohydrate-rich foods such as potatoes and bananas do not contain gluten and do not trigger symptoms,it is going to be in the long run a great thing though. You will feel better. I eat alot of darn tofu instead of porkchops.lol. I hope it is not that and you just got gastritis or something. Hugs darling. I am rooting for ya.

KARMA IS IT THOU?

I have similar problems as yours. I had the Celiac test, but it came back negative. I have since been diagnosed as having Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This can be supported by taking tablets prescribed by your doctor. I have been on these for a couple of months now, and they help heaps. It also helps to try to avoid the products that you know set you off. Good luck.

Flatulence is a classic symptom of celiac. Oats are safe for most celiacs except for the fact that most commercial brands are contaminated with wheat in processing and in the fields, so only oats labeled "gluten-free" should be used. Blood tests are often unreliable. The best test may be elimination of the food to see if the symptoms go away, then eating it to see if they come back. In the absence of a positive test, many people are diagnosed with "irritable bowel syndrome", which is a non-diagnosis, like going to the dermatologist to get that rash checked out and getting a diagnosis of "skin rash". Many people who have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome have their symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet. Don't focus on what you can't eat, focus on what you can.
