I have a constant stuffy/runny nose and flem in my throat...HELP!?
-
I'm 15 years old and a singer/actress and constantly have a stuffy/runny nose, flem in the back of my throat and a cough. I'm not sick as in cold or flu but these symptoms came after a bad cold i had last April and they never went away! I do eat and drink Cows Dairy products and I'm wondering if that could be part of the problem? Can someone please help me with this as it is affecting my singing and acting and I'm getting really frustrated with it! Thanks :)

I have the same problem almost all the time. You could have seasonal allergies. You could even have mold in your house that you are allergic to.There are many things that you could be allergic to. Milk is a possibility as well. Go off of it completetly for a week than go back on it hard core. Tons of dairy all that day. Then you will know. That's what my doc had me do. I'm allergic to half the stuff out there. I reccommend going to an allergist and getting tested for lots of stuff (they do a prick test on your back-it just tickles more than anything) So get that done so you can nip this problem in the bud as best as possible so you can get back to the things you love! P.S. Even if you find out milk is not the source, don't drink milk right before you are going to sing, milk can make anyone have more flem. That's why when my kids are sick I don't give them milk right before bed because it makes them more flemmy so htey can't sleep. Drink a lemon honey drink. I think someone else said that too. Though if you have allergies that is not going to be enough. Get yourself checked out so you can get started on some allergy meds if necessary.

Ahhh. That sounds like Verzoegert Syndrome. Sucks to be you
How the f**k are you
If you are seriously planning to be a singer, make up your mind to really baby your throat. It sounds like you might have developed a chronic sinusitis or rhinitis. Dairy products can certainly aggravate it. Try going off all dairy for ten days and see how you feel. Benadryl should help if it's allergies. Do not take anything with psuedeoephedrine as it dries your throat and vocal cords. Get a neilmed system and saline rinse at the drugstore -- maybe $20 -- and use daily to keep your nasal passages clear and hydrated. Drink plenty of water, honey-lemon tea and herb teas to stay hydrated. Ask your vocal coach, other singers, etc., for names of good throat doctors in your area.

Milk is known to cause more mucus so maybe you want to cut down. It sounds like allergies to me try your local pharmacy they can help you choose the best medicine for your symptoms.
