Am I lactose intollerant?

I'm lactose intollerant - If I take something that usually helps with IBS, will it help me?

  • I live in Australia, I understand there is medication overseas to help lactose intollerant people but there is nothing over here and it SUCKS!!!!

  • Answer:

Lactase, which is the enzyme that breaks down lactose in the stomach, is available over the counter in the US. From my info, you can get it in Australia too. The brand over there seems to be called Lacteeze, your local pharmacy probably has it, or a similar brand. Call them up and ask for 'lactase enzyme'. Figuring out how to take it can be a little tricky, as you have to take it slightly before consuming milk products, and can't take it on an empty stomach.
