Advice on travelling for a nut allergy sufferer (or - how I learned to stop worrying and love the nut).?
-
I am travelling to Morocco via France and Spain in a few weeks, but I am weighed down by a severe nut allergy and my immense weight. It is the former that I wish to address here today. Can anybody advise me on how to keep myself safe when travelling; I am taking a few epipens for safety, and I am currently learning phrases warning food vendors about my condition, as well as taking printed cards with the phrases in French and Spanish... does anybody know where I could get phrases written down in Arabic. Will it be a problem taking my epipens into Morocco? Will I need a letter, for example. Thank you, thank you.

Answer:
You will have no problems traveling into Morocco with EpiPens. I had 2 with me when I moved to Morocco and no one even questioned me. If can't hurt to have a letter from a doctor explaining what they are but generally airport security will KNOW what they are. I am also diabetic and need to carry insulin, needles and pump supplies and I have no problems. Cards indicating a nut allergy in different languages are a very good idea. There are many, many kinds of nuts in so many foods in Morocco, that the extra precautions are a very smart idea. There are many official translators in Morocco who can give you the written Arabic translation of these cards, or several lay people who can assist as well. Enjoy your trip!

You'll need an official doctor's letter about the epipens, and you'll need to declare them at customs before you enter any country or get on any plane - make sure you have what you want to say translated into legible phrases before you go.

Are you from England, you could ask at the doctors as most of them are different origins they may be able to write it down for you. Or try the library there may be something there that will help. It must be very scary for you to go through the thought of being ill, i suffer from alot of allergies but nothing as servere as that, apart from anti - botics. Would anti-histermines help you, i mean if you take them before you have a meal just in case would that help slow down the effect in time for you to get your epipen out. Wish i could help more, i hope i have helped abit, good luck and enjoy your trip.

remember and let the flight team know as well, they will ask the passengers to refrain from eating nuts on the plane.
