What protein bar is best?

Healthiest Protein Bar (10 Points Best Answer)?

  • I want one with roughly 20 grams of protein. Other than that, what I mean by healthy is that I just want it to have as few ingredients as possible, other than whey protein.

  • Answer:

I've never actually bought a protein bar since when i looked at the ingredients I steered away with fear. Plus, most use combinations of sweetness that i tend to dislike bc they're overly sweet (ie, hydrogenated peanut butter crunch topped with chocolate caramel). So, i opt for New City Market's "Show me the Whey" protein: no added sugar, is micro-filtered, no rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone), no artificial flavors or colors, and no preservatives. I add it to yogurt plus any fruit i like, oatmeal.. you name it. Also, i drink water when and mix in a Soy protein by the same brand and eat an almond crisp kashi bar when im at work. Another solution you may not want to hear is making your own protein bars. You save money and avoid contact with those dreaded tongue-twisting ingridients. Sometimes, I bake these during the weekend in case i dont have time to prepare and measure a meal. They're low-fat bars (unless you wanna use whole milk for more flavor and texture) rich in fiber and taste great with a light spread of natural peanut butter across the top (optional). Served with a protein drink, they make a well-balanced meal. Here's the recipe if you decide to venture into making it: (Makes 10 bars) Ingredients: 3 1/2 cups quick oats (you can use the quaker's but i opt for McCann's steel-cut, Irish oatmeal. Open both cans and they dont even look like the same thing!) 1 1/2 cups powdered non-fat milk (There's a local brand of milk where i live called Farmer's Creamery: non homogenized and you can tell bc the fat --even low fat milk-- rises to the top. Shop around and im sure you'll find a local brand) 1 cup sugar-free (diabetic) pancake syrup ---Cozy Cottage, Cary's or Howard's brand. ( Since diabetic is another word for super refined sugars like splenda, I opt for Agave Nectar since it's a low glycemic sweetner -- yay no blood sugar spikes since it's slowly absorbed by the body) 2 egg whites, beaten 1/4 cup orange juice 1 tsp Vanilla 1/4 c. natural applesauce* 4 scoops chocolate or vanilla protein powder (New City Market's Vanilla "Show me the Whey". It's a local store so i doubt you'll be able to find it elsewhere, but shop around) Directions: Preheat oven to 325°. Mix all dry ingredients in bowl and blend well. In separate bowl, combine eggwhites, orange juice, applesauce, & the sugar-free syrup (or agave nectar) and blend well. Stir liquids into dry ingredients until blended. The consistency will be thick and similar to cookie dough. Spread batter on baking sheet coated with non-stick spray (or organic butter). Use a 9x12 baking dish if you want a thicker bar. Bake until edges are crisp and browned. Cut into 10 bars and store in airtight container or freeze. *If you find you want a moister bar, add a little more applesauce to the recipe for softness. To be honest not many protein bars have little or natural ingredients but Randy is right on Pure protein bars they are the ones i eat 4g sugar alcohol and 20g protein and 180cals in the choc deluxe kind it's tasty and all and a site google pure protein bars ull find a site where u can buy um..i buy mine from target they are good to get but they do have carbs like 18g i think..and 4-5g fat not bad though for a protein bar

$$BOOyahKAsha$$

Well, I'm not sure about all the ingredients because I'm currently out of them, but Pure Protein protein bars have about 19-22g of protein, 0-2g of sugar, and moderate on fat. I really don't know why they can't make protein bars like they make the whey protein, you know JUST protein with like 1 g fat and no sugar or carbs ya know? Yea, they're cheap too. Some weeks stores in my city offer buy 1 get 1 free, or sometimes for just $1 each. Yea, don't let the name of the bar throw you off lol. I just like them cause they are just like Met-RX bars but a lot cheaper and taste better. There's lots of different flavors EDIT AGAIN: hey yamster, heres a suggestion. i sometimes used to take my shaker bottle to school with me. i would put like 1-2 scoops powder in. then when it came time to drink it i went to the bathroom and filled it up with water and drank it.
