Help with shin splints? i think?

so im in the process of doing the insanity workouts which was great at first but after the 2nd week i got what i think are shin splints (sharp pains in the shin area) and was wondering if anyone knows how i can help this (i know stretching is supposed to help but it doesnt)

I get shin splints from dancing sometimes, but to me they feel more like bruising on the inside of my shins and when they get really bad, they feel like a bad ache. I don't know how to prevent them but I have found that a temporary solution for the pain is either 2 ibuprofen or A535 (or both). The only way I have really had the pain go away is to rest them for a few weeks.
