What are some healthy, high-calorie foods for gaining weight?

  • I am trying to gain weight by eating more portions of healthy food throughout the day, but I need some ideas on different foods I can eat to add variety to my diet. What are some quick, easy, and healthy high-calorie foods or meals that I can make to up my caloric intake? The only thing I can think of that I am eating right now is whole grain sandwiches with lots of natural peanut butter in the middle, but that gets dry and old real fast. Does anyone have any other suggestions on foods I could try out to help gain weight? And for those of you who have successfully gained weight, can you share your secrets. Thanks a bunch.

  • Answer:

protein shakes - you can make them out of anything you want to - fruit juice, milk, with fruit, berries, flax oil, tofu etc. there are also other nut butters like almond butter. avocados, soy or whole milk yogurts, nuts, dried fruit, at least 70% cocoa chocolate, cheeses, bran muffins (once in a while), trail mix.

You can always supplement with a product like "Ensure". It is full of balanced calories tastes good and will pack the weight on. As far as food goes, eat lots of complex carbs like pasta with plenty of protein in the form of lean meats. Whole grain breads will also pack the pounds on. The secret is to eat generous portions and stay away from sugars and fats. Make a meal or snack out of Ramen Noodles and top it off with steak or seafood. Yumm!

Try avocado (or guacamole), nuts (doesn't have to be peanut butter but any type of whole nut), seeds (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.), olives, and fatty fish like salmon. These all are healthy but high-calorie. Also, try using more olive oil or canola oil when making dinner. If you really want to gain weight your best bet is eating lots of carbohydrates which naturally the higher GI ones will cause the most gain which is basically white flours, potatoes and sugar but not necessarily healthy so you will want to keep an eye on how your body handles them. Eat these with fats but stay away from all the processed fats, stick with proper fats like real butter, olive oil, macadamia oil etc But keep an eye on your blood sugars and triglycerides, as carbohydrates can send them through the roof.

I took the time to read all the answers before mine. I would agree with them all. That way worked for me. I gained over 100 pounds the last two years and am 6'3", 380 pounds with a 60 plus inch waist. Also - be healthy but if you really want to gain be less active and more sedentary - sit, rest, lie, go easy. Do some walking to be mobile. Keep us posted. My piture here or on my 360 site will show you more.

whole grain pasta, nuts, protein shakes, yogurt with granola

Nuts, like almonds, are really good for you and high good fats and protein.
