Alright Joe, fat takes the longest to digest. Sometimes up to 4-6 hours. Proteins are next. I'm talking about proteins from meat and stuff. They take roughtly 3-4 hours to fully digest. NOTE: whey protein is digested in about 20-30 minutes, casein about 7 hours. Veggies will take about 30-45 minutes. Fruits about 20-30 minutes to digest. That's why I always eat fruits first, then veggies, then meat, then the fatty part of the meal if there is any. If you eat the protein first then the veggies, the veggies are going to be sitting on top of the protein fermenting causing bloating and lots of gas in your stomach. Think of it like a hamburger. The meat that you ate is on the bottom and next is veggies or whatever. Those vegetables are sitting there in your stomach for a few hours until that protein is digested. Or you could do it the best way and eat your fruits and veggies first, and well you see what I mean. I mean yea sometimes you can mix, but that would be the best order you know. Oh, and Yamster I totally know what you're saying. when i said digest i meant like pass through the stomach. i know actual digestion can take days. I ate at an all you can eat buffet a few weeks ago. i accidently ate a shrimp shell. about 6 days later i took a **** and looked down and saw the shrimp shell! i was like WTF! is that? lol but yea. you know if you don't have like any casein, or milk, or cottage cheese, you can always have something like flax seed or other kind of good fat like nuts or something before bed. this is because fat is digested slowest, which would be beneficial you know to have alittle fat and protein at night to keep you through the night. btw tomorrow is my chest day and im so pumped.

Well, to tell you the truth, it could take up to 3 days. Carbohydrate digestion starts first, in the mouth. Protein digestion starts second, in the stomach (I think I told you fat digestion is second once, I meant to say protein, idk why I said fat). And finally, fat digestion starts in the small intestine. But none of the 3 macronutrients are completely digested until they reach the small intestine, and it may take up to 3 days for them to completely digest. By "digest", I mean until they completely break down to their monomers (building blocks). The reason protein should be in every meal every 3 hours isn't because of the digestion rate, it's because protein only keeps you in a positive nitrogen balance for up to 3 hours, and then you require an adequate source of protein again to sustain it.
