Gluten Free Thanksgiving?

Is it healthy to want to be gluten free?

  • My friend is gluten free and lactose free because she has stomach problems. She can't really eat a lot of stuff, and I'm thinking of becoming gluten free so she doesn't feel bad. I want to become gluten free, but I don't have any information on becoming gluten free. My mom is ok with it, because she says it's healthy. I'm twelve and I was just wondering what kind of foods I can and can't eat. Do you think it's healthy for me? I'm not very skinny, so my body can take a lot of different food, even gluten free stuff. My mom said I could eat gluten free at least six days out of the week and eat normally on the seventh, do you agree? Where could I get gluten free food from?     First of all, wanting to become gluten free should be a personal choice for yourself and should not be decided on just because a friend is gluten free. Gluten free can be healthy as long as you're still getting your daily nutrients which can be hard with such a limited diet. If you can sit down with your mom and write out the meals and snacks you will have every day to make sure you're getting the proper nutrition, it's more likely that you'll continue to eat what you need. Not sure what you meant by "[your] body can take a lot of different food, even gluten free stuff." Gluten free food isn't going to hurt your body. You can get gluten free food from most grocery stores. Many larger chains are starting to have a health food section. I am vegan and am able to find food at places like Giant Eagle and Kroger. Of course you can find things at places like Whole Foods or Trader Joes as well. Good luck with your decision! :)
