Is weight loss the way to lose cellulite and love handles?
-
I'm not incredibly over weight or anything (5'2", 130 - 140 lbs and 16 years old) but I do have some fat on me, and I'm working at losing that. Right now I'm trying to lose about 15 - 25 lbs and tone up a little. I'm really insecure about my love handles and my cellulite though. (I have cellulite on my thighs and my love handles 0o and it's really unattractive and gross) Is 45 minutes of cardio daily, along with healthy low fat diet (tomorrow i'm eliminating my one fatty food: peanut butter) and strength training good enough to lose love handles and cellulite? I'm not expecting results on either of those two things within a few months per se, but after maybe a year of really working? and if not, how can i get rid of these?

Answer:
Weight loss is not your answer. Fat loss is. You may not lose weight as you will gain some muscle and lose fat, but bringing your body fat % down will get rid of the cellulite and love handles. 45 minutes of cardio daily will help, but your diet will really be the major factor. You do not want a 'low fat' diet, as you need healthy fats to lose fat, and to keep your joints and ligaments healthy. I have a lot of experience forming diets for clients, so I will give you a quick overview. With your stats, you probably burn about 2100 Calories per day. So to lose fat, and retain or build muscle, then you have to eat enough protein in about 1900 Calories per day. First, you want to cut out as much as, or all if you can, processed sugar (candy, soda, sweets) out of your diet. You can eat as many green vegetables as you like. You should drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. Last, You should try to eat these portions daily in your 1900 Calories. Protein: 120g Carbs: 70g Healthy Fats: 50g Here are some great foods that will help you reach those ratios and stay within your Calorie limit. Protein: natural peanut butter, whey powder, milk, yogurt, eggs, lean red meat, skinless chicken breast, fish Carbs: whole wheat bread, whole wheat cereal, whole wheat pasta, carrots, potatoes, oats Healthy Fats: nuts, virgin olive oil, egg yolks, natural peanut butter

I'm 18, your height and weigh a little bit more than you. From the end of January of this year to the beginning of May I lost 12 pounds, which is very healthy way to drop weight. I have dropped 2 pant sizes now :). Changing your diet by reducing the amount of fat and bad carbs (high in sugar, low in fiber) and add more fruits and vegetables helps. Cardio helps, do side crunches for your love handles, running should help your cellulite. Try building muscle in your thighs. Don't cut out everything you love eating. Give yourself a "cheat" day where you can eat what you like and want but not over indulge in those foods. Instead of a chocolate bar, eat yogurt (low fat yogurt and watch for the amount of sugar in it). Another big thing that people forget: sleep. Make sure you are getting 8 hours of sleep. Sleep is very important in weight loss also. Once it's off, don't stop working because you'll gain it back. BTW you can eat peanut butter (in sandwiches). It gives a bunch of protein and energy and makes you full just don't eat it everyday. Good luck!

Last year I lost ~10-15lbs. I did it by just eating foods that were generally lower in calorie, and by learning better about what a serving actually looked like and doing portion control. The weight came off gradually and easily, part of which was my love handles. I don't know about the cellulite, but if you follow through on what you are planning, you will definately lose the love handles. The small things really do add up. Even if you aren't able to stop and do that 45 min of cardio daily (kudos if you can!), there are little things you can do that will help. Park at the bottom of the parking lot at the grocery store, put on a music video and just start dancing, it will get your heart pumping and is soo much fun. Good luck to you!
