How do I deal with money problems?

How can one ethically collect money owed to them? I have problems collecting what is due me & keeping patients?

  • I am a dentist and i have been having problems collecting payments. I am a christian and would like to know any tips or suggestions on how to ethically collect money that is due me in a christian way and still be able to keep my patients. Please help.

    Your first step is to call the people involved and ask them what amount a month they can send you each month to start paying you back. People who can't afford a whole dentist bill can usually afford to pay part of it back at a time. If you think someone might have trouble affording your bill, talk price and arrange a payment plan in advance. The Christian opinion on what is fair interest and what constitutes usury has varied throughout history. In the old testament, Israelites were allowed to charge interest to foreigners, but not other Israelites. YMMV. At a certain point, you may have to report them to a credit agency or hand their case to a collection agency or both, because if they won't communicate with you, and won't pay you back, what they have done is theft. You should not be trying to keep patients that can pay and won't.

Some doctors have the patient pay the base fee, or the co-pay amount, at time they arrive. You can use an electronic check cashing service at your office, to make sure no problem with check. Accept credit cards. Make sure patient know that there will be a charge for additional services, if needed. That needs to be stated on form they sign, when they pay the initial fee. If the patient is insured, require that the insurance info be provided in advance, so that it can be cleared before the appointment. Have sign that says payment in full required at time of appointment. Have that stated on a patient information sheet that can be given out. The sheet contains useful information.

we sent out accounts first saying you owe this much for this treatment , we give it a couple of weeks then send out another account , if this fails we sent another account saying if money is not paid then no frther treatment can be done unless they make their payment, also if they have a bad record of paying , we get them to pay bit by bit , this also helps the patients so they are not faced with a large bill at the end of the treatment , you can also put in the account something like theycan come in to discuss the payment if they are finding it hard to pay it of , ie they may be able to afford £5 a week rather than paying £50 allin one go remeber this money is due to you, and it is yours so dont be affraid to ask for it , i mean , would you go and do your grocery shopping without any money in your purse and expect it to be ok to be paid back'one day' , so why is it ok to do this at the dentist ? good luck xx
