There isn't anything special. Its a carry over from a study that was done when trident was about the only sugarless gum on the market. I believe the original poll question to the dentists was something like... "if a patient was going to chew gum, which gum would you recommend..." Then they get a list of possibilities, one of which was sugarfree trident. Starting to get the picture now? I doubt they would get such an endorsement today when you can find umpteen different sugarless gums. But they continue the claim from the 1970's.
