hello i had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out yesterday... they put in dissolvable stitches...now im basically eating pureed foods..... but, the stitches seem to be 'disappearing', is it dissolving or is a dry socket about to form? The wound on one side seems to be getting bigger and the stitch seems to be dissappearing... HELP im in trouble?

I have just replied you by email. But I just want to add that please dont feel panicky.....suppose even if the wound has opened up and you are not having any problem........let the dentist decide tomorrow whether he needs to put more stitches. By the way, please note that it is very very unlikely that all the stitches over a particular wound will open up simultaneously......even though accidently........just not heard!! So, just relax...

you probably accidently opened the stitch [ did you drink anything through a straw or suck on a spoonful of the puree? cos the pressure prolly opened it] you might want to clean out the open socket with some salt water, but it's best to call your dentist/ surgeon just to make sure. don't put your fingers in your mouth to look at the wound, and don't move your cheek so that the other stitches won't open up as well. getting your widsom teeth pulled out sucks, so i wish you the best regarding your pain!

you probably opened the wound accidentally you need to get the infection taken care of immediately and get restitched

Firstly, keep eating soft or pureed foods in order to keep the wound area clean and in tact. Dry sockets are inflammations to the alveolor bone after tooth extractions. If the bloodclot is prematurely removed, infection could form. One of the worst things to do right after an extraction is to be too curious. I've seen many patients stretch and pull their cheeks to see the area, loosening up the stitches. Do you know if you had a surgical extraction? Did your dentist use a drill to break apart your teeth? Were your teeth already protruding? Or were they under the gums? If you feel panicked, you can always go back to have them check it out. I had my wisdom teeth drilled out of me, had a hole 3mm wide without stitches, and it healed fine. Rinse with warm salt water after you eat to avoid getting debris in there!
