How do I treat minor nerve damage?

I need some advice!! I had an apico done and have permanent numbing and nerve damage.. should I sew?

  • Thought I'd get opinions. The apicoectomy wasn't even needed. No infection was even found. The endodontist was so rude! I called the office the next day and told them I was having jolts of pain shoot through my jaw and up to my ear. The lady practically blew me off and said, "Honey, you just had a bone drilled through, you're going to have pain." At that time, I was still numb as well. (I believe they go hand-in-hand). After 4 months of not realizing that the pain in my gum and tooth are from nerve damage, I was about to get my tooth pulled. I went to see my doctor first. He gave me some Lyrica (for nerve damage) and the pain went away. This greatly upsets me because it came back when I stopped it. My doctor told me I should have immediately been referred to a doctor because the sooner you treat permanent numbing and nerve damage.. the higher the possibility you can treat and lessen its effects. I'm only 26. When I'm not on Lyrica, I HAVE to take pain medicine (over the counter) 6 xs daily. I want to have another baby.. but don't think I'll be able to. I just don't know where to turn!! I think I may sue the endodontist. When he numbed me that day, my vision changed. He kept jabbing the needle further and further into my mouth I thought the needle was going to pop out of my skin through the other side. Although, I'm not sure if it was the numbing that did this, or from the actual procedure itself or both? I'm just at a loss. I feel I'm due for pain and suffering!!!! HONESTLY!

  • Answer:

More information is necessary. Please answer the following: 1. Why did you need to go to an endodontist? Were you referred by your general dentist? 2. Why do you say an apico "wasn't needed"? What options were you offered by your dentist and the endodontist? 3. Which tooth was it? (approximately) 4. Where are you numb? (tongue, lip, cheek, ...?) 5. Has the numbness improved or got worse? 6. Have you been back to your general dentist or the endodontist, and what did they say?
