What is a gum disease?

I think I have gum disease? What EXACTLY is it and how to I get rid of it?

  • Hey~ I am a 13 year-old girl and I have braces. I have had braces for nearly 2 yrs. and I am going to get them off in Oct. (Yay! No more braces, no bands, no more rubber hands-by rubber hands i mean orthodontists' hands' in my mouth!) But I think I have gum disease because my gums are puffy, a whitish/pink color, they hurt when I brush them, and they just look and feel weird. (and they overlap my teeth a little bit.) I am not totally sure what gum disease is and I don't know if I have it and I don't know how to cure/fix/get rid of it. So any advice on how to get rid of it and what it is and if I have it would help greatly. THANKS in advanced. And in case your wondering...I haven't ben flossing so good :(

    I used a tooth past called crest pro health for gum protection about 2 mouths ago because i noticed that my gums were really red and any nick would cause it to bleed. After using the tooth paste for awhile i have noticed my gums turned a nice pink color and the bleeding stopped cause i also bought a new tooth brush. I think my older tooth brush was causing me so much gum problems.
