How do you become a dental hygienist?

From dental nurse to dental hygienist, how many years does it take to become?

  • currently i am studying dental nurse. i am planning to study hygienist after i complete this course. if i had studied dental hygienist directly then it would take 3 years. so, i wanna know if it takes less than 3 year if i do hygienist after dental nurse course. please help me¬¬ :)) thankss

    Are you in the USA? Because here in the USA there is no such thing as a dental nurse. Dental hygienists used to be called dental nurse back when it started decades ago. There are dental assistants (take 1 year certificate program) or dental hygienists (2-4 year college degree). If you are an assistant it will take you at least 1-2 years more to become a dental hygienist depending on where you had your assistant education and where you apply to become a dental hygienist. Please consult a college advisor. However I recommend NOT becoming a hygienist in the USA because there are very few jobs for hygienists right now.
