What do you have to do to become an Orthodontist?

What course are needed to become an Orthodontist?

  • I'm currently attending a community college, and wanted to major in Dental Hygienist but I’ve changed my mind to becoming an Orthodontist. Before transferring into a 4-year college you have to complete Liberal Arts for Dental Hygienist. What is needed to become an Orthodontist? Should I continue on attending Liberal Arts, if so what course is next when I attend the 4-year college? P.S. I’m planning to attend Virginia Commonwealth University or another school, haven’t decided yet. Please explain thoroughly. Thanks! o_~

  • Answer:

In order to become an orthodontist you first have to be a dentist. That means four years of dental school then three more years of orthodontic training. That is all after you get a 4 year degree. I think you should major in science not liberal arts. That would make it easier once you are in dental school. It also looks better when you apply to dental school. Find the information at the dental school's web sites.
