What is required to be a dentist?

Why creativity is required for a dentist?

  • I read on salary.com that a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.

  • Answer:

I think creativity is a good attribute for many professions. In dentistry, there are established ways to deal with many problems. Sometimes these may not always apply in every patient - so thinking of a way to solve the problem will require a creative mind. I find this to be true within my specialty, as well. As an orthodontist I am faced with many patients who are very similar and require fairly standard treatment. However, there are exceptions and I have had to think of never before used methods to achieve a successful outcome.

I can see it being useful if you are a peadeatric dentist. I would need a lost of creativity to convince a five year old that you were about to stick a needle in their gums but that it wasn't going to hurt.

It's so they get rounded people to become dentists. Australia is having a big problem with that in or medical field, we had a few years where the majority of students in medicine were rope learners. They just sat in a room memorising everything. When it actually came to being a doctor they knew the stuff, they were just horrible people. I would imagine this applies to dentistry as well!
