Can I get lingual braces on the NHS?

Can I get braces on the Nhs?

  • Was hoping someone could help me out with some info, I'm 23 single, live on my own and only work 25 hrs per week. I want to get standard braces fitted and have been looking around and nowhere seems to really give a definite price, a site I was reading said that the average price for private treatment was approx £1500 and the average for NHS was approx £200. I know I cant get them for free because I work but I cant afford the private cost, is it possible for me to get braces on the Nhs but pay for them? Is there anyoe who is in the same boat? or anyone with experience of this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

The NHS only offers braces to people under 18. Since you are older than this the only way to get braces is going private and it will cost you thousands.

You can get them free on the NHS is your income is low- see your dentist for the exemption forms people get tax credits also may qualify for free treatment remember getting braces involves years of treatment, not just the price of the braces you need to get impressions taken of your teeth, then get them fitted, then have many appointments to get them tightened yes the braces may cost £200, but you need many appointments over a few years to get the full treatment

The NHS will only let you get them if they are necessary, that is, for example to 'correct' the bite, not for cosmetic realignment.
