Do lingual braces work?

Can lingual braces work with jaw realignment surgery?

  • This summer I have to get jaw realignment surgery due to my overbite; I was really do not want the braces because they would be embarassing at age 20, so I was wondering if I could get the behind the teeth braces with the surgery, how much the whole ordeal would cost, and if insurance would cover it? THANKS!

  • Answer:

I'm a dentist. Forget the lingual braces. They have far too many complications associated with them for them to be worthwhile, especially for someone like you who is having orthognathic surgery. Nobody is going to laugh at you for having braces, but if you're really concerned, ask for ceramic brackets. They cost more, but they eliminate most of the metal in your smile (with the exception of the wire).

after your surgery the jaws could be plated or immobilized for a few weeks..it would be rather very diffucult for you to maintian your oral hygiene.; that would inturn cause lot of problem for your teeth and gums. you will be better of with the conventional braces.
