How can you get rid of gingivitis?

How to get rid of gingivitis...?

  • Hi I have gingivitis and I guess that it is partially my fault because I don't floss my teeth very often. I am not going to go to the dentist (please do not say to go to the dentist because it is not going to happen for financial reasons). I feel like it is in a way not my fault because I was brushing with "Crest" that had mini whitening strips in it and I didn't realize until last week that is did not protect against gingivitis. I want to get rid of my gingivitis as fast as possible without visiting the dentist or getting a prescription. I am now using Crest total care, flossing my teeth, and rinsing my mouth with heavy salt water. Is that going to make it go away? I am willing to use other products that are not prescription is necessary! Please help! Thank you :)... More like :{|} (that's gingivitisy lips) ;). (Not THAT bad though :P).

Let's be realistic. If you're doing all that you say you're doing, brushing, flossing, rinsing... things would get better to a point. Go look up the "Modified stillman" brushing technique, and watch a video on how to floss properly, make sure you've got your bases covered. Next.. salt water rinses are great for soothing and helping the gums heal, but there are no antibacterial qualities to salt water. So if you find it comforting, keep doing it, but add an Oral B rinse, or Listerine. A high quality, antibacterial rinse with fluoride in it. They're only $4 at Walmart. Next.. if you have build up of hard deposits (tartar/calculus) you can't get rid of that on your own, and its going to keep your gums unhealthy until its removed. That's why you have to try to get some moolah together, or figure out a way to get a professional cleaning. If there's a dental school nearby, check that out, they are very cheap, and you'll get everything you need. Good luck =) Edit - You should be brushing AT LEAST 2 times a day, flossing AT LEAST once a day! Good luck, keep up the good work, hope it all works out for you =) Edit - Yes, its really your fault. Toothpaste is toothpaste and can't be blamed for giving you gingivitis. Any kind of toothpaste will prevent gingivitis if YOU are using it correctly. I just told you everything you need to know to get rid of it, but If you don't get a cleaning, it'll probably never go away on its own.

You need to get to a dentist before you lose all your teeth (and have them all removed at $35,000 and have to get dentures). Call your county for referrals to where you can go on a discounted basis. I'd be wondering, with all that cleaning you do, how you know you have gingivitis? Are your teeth bleeding? Are they sore? Are all of them receeding?

Sounds like your trying everything, but so easy on the salt rinse. Did you know sinus drainage may be a factor?

if you keep flossing continually then youll be fine, after doing everything you've done its definatley going to go away and then all you'll have to do is floss so dont worry too much.
