Are white strips really bad for your teeth?

Everyone's telling me that white strips are so bad for me but I need to whiten my teeth!! What should I do?

I can't afford to get it professionally done. Everyone says white strips are so bad for your teeth. Everyone says baking soda is just as bad to use. Whitening tooth pastes don't even make a difference. I don't want to damage my teeth that much, but I need to improve their whiteness! AH~!
