What is Dental Hygiene school like?

Trying to get into dental hygiene school?

  • I'm currently in the military, but I'll be getting out next summer and have my sights set on becoming a dental hygienist. I've already started my pre-req's and I get really good grades, but I notice on a lot of school's applications that they ask about any experience in the dental field (which I don't have). Both of the schools in my area are very competitive and only accept 20-25 applicants (out of a normal 200 that apply to each). In a professional opinion, would it be beneficial to go to dental assistant school and work for a little bit before I apply (or if I don't get in on the first try)? Would it be worth it to spend another few thousand dollars and wait another year or so? Any advice from dentists or hygienists would be awesome -- I know this is what I want to do but just need a little advice :)

  • Answer:

Oh my god, why oh why would you want to be a dental hygienist... They're sooooo scary and terrible, their eyes filled with evil, as fear fills their victims. Children hate you, and grown adults have to be sedated from the thought of what the you're about to do to them... Oh god, it's happening again, I'm having a panic attack, thinking too much about the dentist. It's so scary... OH THE HUMANITY ! ! ! goodbye
