Why is Wilson's mouth always covered up?

Female Dentists Only--Have you ever employed the "hand over mouth" technique to help restrain or calm a child?

  • In my reading, I've read that in the past, the dentist had the right to place his/her hand over the child's mouth to help keep him quiet and restrained during or before dental procedures. Does this practice still exist? Have you ever placed your hand over a child's mouth? I find it very hard to believe that a woman's hand is big enough to cover a little child's mouth since most women have tiny hands. If you feel otherwise, tell me how close to the nose your hand might come as you covered his mouth. What part of your hand might come closest to his nose? Do you think he would be forced to smell your hand as you covered his mouth to keep him quiet? Explain why. Would he be able to make much noise thru your palm.
