Gingivitis and braces?

I have braces..but it seems as if i am developing gingivitis..what can i do to help my gums go back to normal?

  • -i have been using mouth wash & brushing up to 3 times a day

  • Answer:

my orthodontist thought i wasn't brushing properly for my 3 years of being braced. turns out, i was allergic to the metal in the braces. the braces on the molars were against my gums and inflamed my entire side gumlines. do you have to wear silver or gold for your earrings and necklaces? if so maybe it's not gingivitis.

floss, floss, floss. they make floss threaders for people with braces. you need to purchase these and floss at least once a day. to start your gums will bleed and hurt b/c you do have gingivitis. after about a week of flossing your gums will toughen up, stop bleeding and look a lot healthier. flossing is a very good habit to start esp. with braces.

What you must do is floss your everytime you eat and brush as well. After doing so I would recommend you rinsing with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide this cut down the bleeding as well as unwanted bacteria. Now rinse with water afterwards the peroxide will leave your mouth foamy and a funny taste but believe me it works.

You still need to floss. You may need to floss after every meal and cut back on snacks unless you can devote your time to flossing after those too

Definitely floss! Also, your dentist may be able to give yo a prescription mouth wash to help. It's inexpensive and works.

First thing is talk with your dentist and see if you are developing gingivitis. You need to brush your teeth often with a medium strength toothbrush (especially after eating) and use a mouthwash after brushing. Your gums may be swollen from your braces but it is good that you are paying attention to your health. Try the above and see if that helps. Also, rinsing with warm salt water (1 tsp salt to a cup of warm water) can also help. Good luck
