Will my elastic bands for braces stop hurting?

When Will Braces and Rubber Bands Stop Hurting?

  • I got braces and rubber bands on yesterday, and they hurt insanely! Is there a way to help them stop hurting I've been taking Advil, but it only works for a little bit.

  • Answer:

Heey im 14 and i only had braces with the rubber bands last year and i know that they are extremely sore! Im not sure how you are reacting but i was screaming into the pillow on my bed :) i tried almost everything to stop them from hurting, even cold ice cream didnt numb the pain. Unfortunately its just a matter of time, the aches and pain on your teeth/jaw should ease up in 2 days. I found that keeping your mouth closed is the best thing to do because constantly talking or eating will just stretch the bands and pull on your teeth even more. Sometimes just taking your mind off of it works by playing a game that you enjoy etc. It will not stop hurting by the 2nd day but will certainly feel a lot less pain than you will be now. Its so worth the pain in the end! Hope it helped!! P.S be prepared for the rubber bands to be snapping in your mouth from time to time. Its scary at first but you'll get used to it :)

Sorry to hear about your pain! You may want call your doctor and ask if you can skip the elastics until the pain from your braces goes away. That may help a bit. Taking Advil or some other pain killer is also suggested. The pain will go away eventually though. Good Luck Orthotime
