How to cure a lip blister/swollen lip?

Lip piercing infection, how do i cure it? Will it return to normal after i use listerine for a while?

  • My lip is definitely infected. But i want to keep it in and treat it so that it returns to normal. How do i do this? Should i go to a piercing shop and ask them what to do? Will my infected lip ever return to normal where the redness has gone down and the puss stops coming out?

  • Answer:

If you've got a big, red, sore, pussing piercing then it is time for a trip to the doctor. DO NOT TAKE THE PIERCING OUT. Taking out the jewelry can trap the infection within your lip and cause an abcess which will lead to more problems. Taking out an infected piercing will not cure the infection, so leave it alone. Visit your doctor to get some antibiotics to clear up your lip. Once you've got your medicine (or whatever plan the doc has for you), it's time to start taking care of your piercing correctly. Step one of avoiding a repeat infection is to NEVER touch your piercing with hands that are not freshly washed. This is probably how you got an infection in the first place. Hands are covered in germs and you absolutely must not put them on your piercing for any reason. Once you've washed your hands, you can clean your piercing. You can do this with anti-bacterial soap once or twice a day or you can use sea salt soaks (or both if you please). To make a sea salt soak, mix 1/4 teaspoon sea salt with 8oz warm water. Soak the piercing in the solution for a few minutes at a time. When you are first pierced, most piercers have you rinse your mouth after meals with non-alcoholic mouthwash. You can do this now if you want since you are trying to clear up an infection, but stop if it seems to be irritating the situation. In the future, keep your mouth tidy with daily teeth brushing to keep your piercing healthy. Since you've got an infection, see your doctor. To help it along in healing and keep it healthy in the future, take care of it well. Don't touch it, wash it daily, and otherwise leave it alone to heal.

I don't know why people play with their health. You are taking your good health for granted. Personally I would go to the doctor because I would be afraid of blood poisening and dying. Or my lip falling off or discoloring and scarring. Gangrene of the face. Infection turning into my losing teeth. I have been sick for two months and you are playing with your good looks and health. I guess that is just how it works. Good luck!

I recommend that you do not pierce parts of your body that always contain high number of bacteria or any parts of your body for that matter. One of these parts is your mouth which always contains high amounts of bacteria due to the food you digest daily.Ask yourself. Is feeling better about your look worth the lip infection?.Visit the doctor.
