How long does pericoronitis last?

I have Pericoronitis?

  • My wisdom tooth erupted (bottom left) and I see a bunch of gums jumbled up covering most of the tooth. Is this what Pericoronitis is? It stings a little when I chew on the left side?

  • Answer:

Pericoronitis is when you have inflammation in your gum when food gets underneath the gum and is not removed. Make sure you brush your teeth correclty in that area because if you don't you may get pericoronitis and it is not very pleasant. Just for your info, the part of the gum covering your third molar is called an operculum ;) For more dental advice visit http://iblogdental.com/

This is normal. Quit chewing on that side of your mouth for now.
