I am getting braces on Friday! Does it hurt? What do you eat? How long does it take to put the braces on? ?

It doesn't hurt to put them on. It'll feel weird, but shouldn't be too much pain from the start. You might feel slight discomfort a few hours after you get them on... it hurts the most when you get them tightened. Best to eat soft things like bananas, smoothies, yogurt, soup, ice cream, etc. You really only need to eat soft things for the first few days... past that, it's up to you. I had braces for two years and never listened to "you can't chew gum or eat bagels and chips" crap... I never broke a bracket! It only takes around 40 minutes to get braces on.

hey! don't worry about it! I had braces, just recently got them off. anyways, it does hurt when you first get them on (only because your teeth are not used to this big piece of metal in your mouth! LOL) it also hurts for the first few tightenings. when you get the on, just have soft things, soup ect... your ortho will tell you how long you have them on for. everyone else is defferent. the average is about 12-18 months.

It dosent hurt it just aches after an hour you got the braces so take some painkillers with you for after the dentist. you need to eat soft food like pasta or potatoes for the first few days. Don't eat apples like you normally would as well, cut them up into smaller pieces and this is the same for carrots. it takes about 40-60 minutes depending on your dentist. and your lips can get sore but they give you orthodontic wax to put over the brackets so they don't rub. also you need to get some toothbrushes from the dentist designed for your braces but if you can find them cheaper somewhere else get them there :) Hope this helps xx

It doesn't hurt having them put on but they take about a week to get used to. Unfortunetly, they do make your mouth and lips a bit sore to begin with as they are something new that your not used to but your mouth will toughen up to them after a while. I would suggest using chapstick to help your lips stop getting too chapped and painkillers should help to ease any aching pains. When you first have them put on, or when you have them tightened, you won't want to eat solid food for a few days. I would suggest soup, mashed potato, yoghurts, anything that you can easily swallow and doesn't require much chewing. Besides from that, you'll be fine and they'll soon become easier to live with. I've had my braces for about 2 years and I hardly notice them now. Keep smiling, it will all be worth it in the end!

congrats! i got my braces last year, anyways it takes about 1 1/2 hours to put on but before, on a different day they take pictures and x-rays, as you may know and went through. it doesn't hurt but it feels funny and sensitive, but that toothpaste doesn't work! they will explain what you cant eat, its the same but you just got to be careful not to loose a bracket, if you do its no big deal tho they just glue a new on back on. some things that aren't good to eat are gooey foods like candy and really hard food. my lips aren't really sore but the inside of your mouth gets a little bit scratched, but not badly like biting your tongue slowly. anyway good luck

Braces do hurt when you get them tightened and the pain it basically lasts for around 3 days, I ate anything, gum, ginger bread (I recommend you don't cuz a bracket ripped off my teeth) cheese, rice, you name it, I didn't let braces restrict my eating and overall I made my dentist pretty angry at times cuz I went to fix my braces up like 40% more than my sister, I put it for 2 years cuz I had a gap in between my front, I had what I think is an overbite, my bottom teeth were a mess, but trust me, your teeth look amazing after you take them off, and you'll tell yourself 'it was a journey' but remember you still have the retainer after the braces which you have to wear for like a year however you can take them of and wear them whenever you want, but to be honest there were sometimes when braces really pissed me off cuz sometimes the osier would hit and scratch my gum and other times the bracket fell off like the incident with the ginger bread but don't be naive, use the retainer after ur done cuz if you don't your teeth will become messy again, sadly that has happened to me :(

The braces can hurt when they tighten them but it doesn't always hurt for everyone. Some great foods to eat when they hurt are mashed potatos and apple sauce (separately of course) and yogurt. It takes about two hours for the orthodontist to put them on.
