Can I do oil pulling when I have braces?

Braces & Teeth pulling Question.?

  • Hai. So i'm 14. and I need teeth pulled for braces( Sucks)...anywho, should i be put asleep while i get them pulled? I've gotten teeth pulled before with the needle in your gum (num solution) and omfg, it hurt like crap! so i don't want to do that again. And about the braces on a scale of 1-10 (10 being im about to die) how bad do braces hurt? i'm scared :x

  • Answer:

Well, on the 11 january i got 2 teeth pulled out on my right side, and on the 16 january i got another 2 pulled out on my left side, then i got my fitted on the 25 january. I'm not sure if they can put you to sleep to get your teeth pulled out, but if they can, that would probably be your only other option other than getting an injection. I had to get 3 injections for the first 2 teeth, then 4 injections for the other 2, it's up to you if you want to get an injection or not, but after the first needle has went into your gum, the other injections aren't that painful because the anesthetic (num solution) is already starting to kick in. Sorry, i'm not sure if having asthma will effect anything, you might have to ask your dentist this. When i was getting my braces fitted, there wasn't any pain at first, the whole procedure of getting them fitted isn't painful at all, it's just a little uncomfortable, it took around 10-15 minutes to get my braces fitted. But about 6 hours after i got them in, i started feeling this really sore aching pain all around my teeth and jaw, and every time i touched the bottom and top of my teeth together, it would feel worse, i tried taking pain killers but they didn't work for me. About 9 hours after i got my braces fitted, the inside of my checks and my bottom lip were starting to chafe because the braces were rubbing against them, but they give you wax to put on the brackets to ease the chafing, the wax does help a lot. The aching pain lasted around 2-3 days, i'm not going to lie the aching pain can be very painful sometimes (scale 7/10). The chafing pain lasted around a week, the chafing isn't to bad it's more annoying than painful (scale 3/10). All pain should wear off within 6-10 days. Also, when i got my braces fitted, my back molars couldn't touch down to chew, it took about 2-3 weeks for my teeth to move slightly, so i could chew properly, you'll get used to them within 2 weeks or so, you get so used to them, that you don't even notice they are there, it's like wearing a watch, you don't realize your wearing it until you need to tell the time or if someone points it out to you. Trust me, after about 2-3 weeks you'll wonder what the all the fuss was about, cause you don't even notice they are there. I've noticed that my diet hasn't changed all that much, the only thing you may have a problem with is very tough beef steaks or really chewy things like toffee etc. But your diet doesn't change that much, you can still eat normal things, it's not like you have to eat just mashed potatoes and thats it, thats far from the truth. The braces are a lot stronger than you might think. Just brush and take care of your teeth the way you would normally do, you might feel a little bit hesitant at brushing your teeth so hard when you first get them in, but as i said, the braces are stronger than you might think. Hope this helps, good luck :)

In my opinion, it is 100 times better to stand a bit of pain than to go under. Possibly it's just me, but going under really messes with your body, especially a younger person's. You will feel sick for up to a week after, VERY sick, and you will regret the decision to get gassed!! Besides, it's really not that great for you. Maybe the needle route hurts, but it only lasts a few minutes. You'll be just fine. For your second question, and you'll probably have heard this before, braces hurt like hell for the first few days, probably over a 4 at least, and you'll probably be living on mashed potatoes and Jello. But after that, there's not much pain, only a little discomfort. You've probably heard this before too, but you will be really glad you got them later on. Hang in there, at least you'll have them off for senior year and college!

You should be aware that having perfectly good teeth pulled to make room will have the following undesirable effects: it will make your mouth smaller, it will make your noes and chin ore prominent, it will cause the area around your mouth to be sunken in(aka dished-in profile), it will make you look older, it will make your upper back teeth not articulate properly with your lower back teeth, it will make your lower jaw bite too far back, and it has been shown to cause TMJ problems, especially in females. Google "TMJ Disorders" to see what you may go through if you develop TMJ. Expansion of the jaws to make room is much more superior treatment then extractions and will not cause all the problems listed above.

You may not want them to use the drug called Versed ( Midazolam ) for the procedure. In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time. Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients. IT'S NOT MY INTENTION FOR YOU TO NOT GET THE PROCEDURE DONE, JUST INFORMING YOU THAT YOU MAY WANT IT DONE WITH ANOTHER DRUG!!!!! Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses Versed I've used Versed 1000+ times during oral surgery procedures and I've never had a complaint. It's a miracle drug because it is safe and it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn't it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure.

You're supposed to tell them if they haven't numbed you enough. Some people need 12 shots in their gums like I do. We're troopers! But they aren't trying to hurt you, just speak up if you feel pain. And the braces question..your teeth shift whick makes your mouth ultra sensitive. You should've eaten really well before you went because I can tell you this...you won't be eating much for the next 3 days. Its about a 7 for the pain. Dont touch your teeth together unless you want to scream out of nowhere.
