Can I take Clindamycin for Bronchitis?

On Clindamycin but still worried! How long does it take to work & what if it does not?

  • I woke up 9 days ago with a lump in my cheek(and no pain). I went to the ER and was given 500 mg of Penicillin 3 times a day for 10 days and was told I had an abscess. I woke up on day 6 and the lump was no bigger but still there. I then went to a different ER. The Dr there looked at it said it did look like an abscess and stuck a needle in it 3 times trying to remove the puss but NOTHING came out. He then put me on Clindamycin, 2 150mg 4 times a day for 10 days. My cheek and gums feel bruised from the needle and hurt. This morning I feel a lot less pain but still swollen. It is only day 2 on the Clindamycin. But this lump just makes me worry more and more. I have never had anything like this. How long will it take for the lump to go down once the Clindamycin starts working? What will they do next if the Clindamycin does not work? My mother in law added us to some kind of plan that will cover 40% to 50% of the care we receive BUT it will be a couple weeks before we get the cards and info to see what it covers. So I can not go to a Dentist until we get that.

  • Answer:

If clindamycin will work it will take at least 3-4 days to notice a result. if it does not then a different antibiotic must be used. I hope you know that the antibiotic will not cure the problem but will only temporarily take care of the swelling.. You are still going to have to see a dentist.
