  • Answer:

Dental assistants are regulated by the province, therefore a dental assistant with a license from Halifax can't practice in another province unless you register with that particular province. In some provinces you just pay the fee and you get your license, depending on what you're allowed to do in your province and what an assistant is allowed to do in the province you're moving to. For example, in BC we're allowed to make temporary crowns, apply etch, primer and bond, but in other provinces assistants are not allowed to do that. So if I move from BC to a province that does not allow assistants to do that, all I have to do is pay the fee to get my license in that province. However, IF an assistant from that province wants to work in BC, she'll have to do extra training and then write a board exam and pass, and only then can get licensed to work in BC. Try to find the CDA association in Alberta and ask them to send you a list of what CDAs are allowed to do in Alberta. Hope this helps.
