When do teeth stop growing?

How do I stop my gum from growing over my teeth?!?

  • I've just had my braces of from having them on for 17 months, and I noticed that my gum had started growing over my teeth like a month or so before i had them off. Now I have my 'essix type' retainer and my gums are growing over some more of my teeth? A few months ago, I had told my dentist she said to keep an eye on it, but it's getting worse gradually, how do I stop this?!

  • Answer:

Are you taking any medications? Calcium Channel Blockers, Dilatin, and some others can cause gingival enlargement. Also, How old are you? or are you pregnant? Sometimes people experience puberty gingivitis or pregnancy gingivitis. It is just an exaggerated response to bacteria in plaque due to hormones.. Make sure you are brushing your teeth gently and thoroughly at least twice a day. 3 or 4 times a day is best. Also try to floss your teeth once or twice a day.
