Is it possible to be allergic to a retainer?

Is it possible for teeth to shift with a permanent retainer?

  • I had my braces on for 3 1/2 years and I just got them off a week ago. I was given a removable retainer for the top and a permanent retainer on the bottom. I am wearing my top retainer 24/7, like they told me to for the first 8 weeks and everything is fine. But, with my permanent retainer, I am seeing changes with two teeth that are bonded. They seem to be leaning inward, which they did not do before. I am just worried that my permanent retainer isn't working. Is there any chance that my teeth really are moving, or am I just paranoid? Thanks. (I do not have a removable retainer on the bottom for the rest of my teeth either, but I don't see any changes with those teeth. Also, I am only 13 and my wisdom teeth have not been removed.)

  • Answer:

They probably are moving. I bet the bonding breaks. It will be obvious. You will feel pieces break off in your mouth like maybe while you are eating. Thats always how mine breaks. I've had mine done like 5 times. They fix it for free but its a pain.
