On a scale of one to ten, how painful are braces?
-
On a scale of 1-10 ,1 being exteemly painful, almost dying and ten being no pain at all what would you rate Getting your braces on And getting Spacers before your braces?

Answer:
Spacers aren't a big deal at all. You mouth will be a little bit tender for a day or two but not that bad. . . Braces- the toughest part is waiting for your lips to get used to the metal in your mouth. For the first few days your lips will be sore, and you may possibly get some cuts in your mouth. Eventually your skin gets tougher and you will be used to them. As far as pain goes, your mouth will feel sore for a few days, and when you go in to get them tightened each month, it will be the same way. On the bright side, when you feel sore, you know your teeth are becoming straighter. I do recommend putting on chap stick frequently a few days prior to going in to get braces, and the day of. Your mouth is kept open for quite a while and if your lips are dry, they could crack, due to the absence of saliva. Overall, braces aren't that bad. I dreaded getting them. I actually threw a huge fit about it (embarrassing, yes), but it turned out to be the best thing I ever did. I love my smile now, and I get compliments all the time. Its totally worth it. Good luck to ya!! Oh! One more thing! The glue they use to put the braces on does not taste good at all... once you are done you will have that taste in your mouth. Have whoever takes you to the orthodontist have something ready for you when you get out, like a latte, hot chocolate, chai tea, or something to drink that you like the taste of. Preferably warm, but not hot, and not really cold either. My mom had a Chai tea for me and the instant the drink hit my tongue the bad taste of the glue was gone. It was a huge relief.

when i first got them on, immediately they were tight and uncomfortably, teeth were so sore couldnt eat much of anything except ice cream. and my mouth was all cut up, and raw. so use lots of wax! buy ice cream or frozen yogurt!1 after about the second week or so, you should grow accustom to them.

Lol.. Everyone is so whiny! I'm extremely sensitive to pain, but braces barely hurt. I'd say wearing general is a o. Getting them tightened is maybe a 1 from the first time to the last time. It hurts as they tighten each individual tooth but it doesn't hurt at all after wards. Maybe some soreness, the most you'll ever get out of them is a 2. Want something truuuly horrible? Imagine an extender! I can't wait to get it off, it hurts like hell and is sooo annoying.

spacers are quite uncomfortable. but it goes away after like three days. getting them on isn't too bad. just take lots of ibuprofen. i NEEEEEEEEED ibuprofen whenever i get my wires tightened and whatnot, and then i dont feel it really. so like first couple of days 8/10. but for anything with braces the pain will go away almost completely after like a week or two.

the first week it was like a 6 (1 being the most painful, like you said) for me...my head was pounding & aching and and i would bite down hard to ease the pain for a few seconds but then a rush of pain would come. the best thing to do is just eat VERY soft food like yogurt because you don't want to irritate your teeth in the first place....and don't bite down on anything.

5. It's been a few years, but I remember they would hurt pretty bad. Just take motrin before and after you go to the ortho, you'll be fine. Word of advice: wear the retainer after you get them off, I didn't and now my teeth aren't straight anymore. All that pain and money for nothing!

Getting your braces on, like a 4, and spacers, maybe a 5. Getting them tightened hurts too, but other than that you'll forget you have them!

About 9. I suffered little pain except when eating. I didn't get spacers, so I can't tell you about them. Don't worry about them. They take a bit of getting used to, just like any change does.

Okay spacers suck @ss plus they smell really bad to. Braces hurt when you first get them your gums become really sore and even a soft piece of fruit will hurt like he// if you chew it. But later on there not that bad...
