Answer:
You need to see a dentist to have your teeth professionally cleaned and possibly scaled. then follow through by brushing your teeth faithfully morning and night and flossing daily. If you have braces then it's very important to clean your teeth throughly on a daily basis.

Gingivitis, a mild or earlier form of periodontal disease, is an infection in your mouth caused by harmful bacteria. These bacteria are constantly being produced by your body so there is no way of really preventing them from reaching your mouth. The harmful bacteria produce toxins that your body's immune system must constantly wage war with in order to keep you healthy. It is the toxins that cause gingivitis and later more severe periodontal problems. Before this happens, take the best effort to maintain maximum oral health care like brushing and flossing, proper diet and regular dental checkup. Source: http://www.themouthdoctor.co.uk/

You can get medicated mouth washes that will clear it up in a week or so. I'm suprised your dentist didn't tell you how or recommend treatment. You should take that up with them, after all it is a dentists responsibility to advise on oral hygiene not just dental. Go to your local chemist/drug store and ask the pharmacist for a mouth wash. But once it has cleared up you need to make sure you keep up with a good regular hygiene routine, brush floss, mouth wash twice a day. Also eat a balanced diet as vitamin deficiency can contribute.

since you have been to the dentist, I am suprised that they have not prescribed a mouthwash for you to use. The dentist may want to see if you are diligent in your brushing and flossing BEFORE he places your braces. You can get a prescription mouthwast called Peridex. It will probably clear it up within a week. You should brush your teeth regularly and floss. Healthy gums should not bleed when you brush or floss. Use mouthwash. Since you have gingivitis, you need to make sure that you are brushing your teeth and lightly brushing your gums. You don't want to irritate your gums more. Rinse with salt water. Listerine may aggravate the situation. If you eat red meat, immediately floss. Red meat rots more quickly and harbors lots of bacteria (like when it's stuck between your teeth). Take some vitamin C. Drink lots of water--sugary soda and juices are bad - especially when you have gingivitis. Always use a soft bristled tooth brush. Change toothbrushes every 4-6 months OR you can sanitize in peroxide. Scaling of the gums is painful and expenisive. Try your best to get rid of the gingivitis on your own. Get the mouthwash. If your dentist won't prescribe, go to your doctor.

You need to brush your teeth twice a day, gums as well as teeth; the brush needs to be at a forty-five degree angle when brushing. A vibratory motion is best as this helps the bristles get in between the teeth. Ignore any bleeding as this will be normal until the gums are healthier, and then it should cease. Floss at least once a day, and use a mouthwash called Corsodyl (chlorhexidine gluconate) it is specially formualted to kill bacteria and prevent bacteria from multiplying as well as being antiseptic and anti fungal. Do not use this mouthwash for more than one month though as it can stain teeth but is excellent for short term use. One answer suggested using Eurythmol toothpaste but you must be aware that this contains absolutely no fluoride so will not be help fight tooth decay. A regular high family toothpaste is good enough, it is your brushing that is the problem. It will resolve but may take about 1 week. Good Luck!!

Your mouth can habour lots of germs, however as quickly as you can catch something, you can also cure quite quickly, because of the good blood supply that you have in your gums. First of all you need to brush at least twice a day, secondly go to boots and ask for two types of paste. One is eurthomol, spellling might not be right, but its an antiseptic tooth paste. It does burn a bit,but use this after washing your mouth out with antiseptic mouth wash.Get a good mouth was, like listerine. 1:Wash mouth with listerine, use tooth brush whilst washing mouth, gently get brush round all the gums.get 2 brushes, one very soft for gum cleaning and a medium for teeth. 2.Then use tooth paste, gently massage and clean all teeth.spit out excess, but dont wash mouth out with water! Leave the tooth paste residue in mouth to continue it cleaning process. 3Get another tooth paste, this one is a herbal one.It has a cleaning and an antiseptic property. Use the different tooth pastes on allternate days. 4. after every meal and suger drink use orbit complete chewing gum.this will greatly cut down acids and help inbetween brushing. Take your time when cleaning teeth, remember dont flush mouth out with water afterwards, defeats object of cleaning them. good luck.

I had the same problem when i was 11 years old, was supposed to be having braces but ortho said cos of the gingivitis my gums would be too weak to withstand a brace in my mouth. Had to have lots of visits to the hygenist and get re educated about teeth brushing and flossing etc. It soon went but I ended up not having the braces put in until I was 18. ( I am now 39 and due to me not wearing a plastic retainer at the end of the 3 years of braces my teeth have more or less gone crooked again). Good luck with it.
