Can I still get braces after having had a root canal?

Can I get braces now that I've had a root canal?

  • I'd rather get the kind of braces that don't show, but I'll take what I can get. I have a root canalled tooth with a post in it (no crown yet- not sure if I'm getting one). Can I get braces? Is it more expensive to get them after a root canal?

  • Answer:

The expense will be the same both before and after the crown. However, it is hard to bond a cracket to the crown than to a natural tooth. Therefore, it is wise to get the ortho treatment done before the crown is done. However, a root canal treated tooth can be weaker / fragile. So, care has to be taken while exerting pressure on that tooth.
