What does antibiotics do to a dental abscess?

How important is it to take antibiotics for a tooth abscess ?

  • Dentist has drilled the tooth to drain and is waiting a few weeks for things to settle before a root canal. How important is it to take the antibiotics ?

  • Answer:

it's very important. The dentist probably doesn't want to finish the root canal while the tooth is infected. The antibiotics will get rid of the infection and once the root canal is complete it'll continue to heal. You need to take the antibiotics no matter what to get rid of the infection... otherwise the root canal will be a waste of money.

Nooooo! Dont, unless prescribed! Strong antibiotics WILL cause your teeth to turn gray colored. Correct prescription should not have a major effect. If you were prescribed, then take it, because you could loose your teeth.
