Is it possible for teeth to naturally re-enamel like new?

Why can't adults grow new sets of teeth like children?

  • it just seems odd that they only grow back once as a child. Also, a semi-related question, do you think geneticists will ever develop of gene to allow adults to grow their own teeth back?

  • Answer:

adult teeth grow in places where baby teeth were because they were in the jaw the whole time, just hidden. if you loose an adult tooth, there is nothing to replace it with. hopefully science will enable adults to regrow new teeth, but that technology is not possible now.

The adult teeth are underneath the baby teeth. I can't ever see people having lots of teeth stacked underneath the baby teeth there wouldn't be room! I don't see how we could grow our own teeth in our mouth that seems rather impossible. Maybe in a lab they could grow teeth and then implant them in the future.

Its the law of nature that after your child teeth falls the pure strong teeth comes which then you have to handle and care. If the adult teeth could also be replaced then no one could care about their teeth. Regards, Fred

Generally, they can't. However, I remember reading an article a few years ago about an Asian octogenarian who got a couple of new teeth - didn't look well, but still - better than nothing.

Not sure that evolution has moved on that far yet. Eventually they reckon wisdom teeth will disappear. but no progress on anything along this line yet.
