How long do rubber bands take to fix an overbite?

  • I've had braces for a little over a year. I just got rubber bands 2 weeks ago to fix my overbite. Hd didnt say how long they would be on but that I needed to have them on 24 hours a day except when eating. He said if I do as I'm told the less time it will take. I don't know the difference between a minor overbite and a major but I think I have a minor overbite. How long does it take to fix if I wear my bands almost all the time?

    Well for me I had a about 65% overbite. Pretty major. So like they wanted to give me the Herbst Appliance but I asked to try elastics. Long story short, I became obsessed with the elastics and wore them so much that I only needed them for 3 months so far. He said that this would be my last month. If you think about it that is pretty good. Usually people have them for up to 10 months. So if you think that your overbite is pretty minor, make sure you wear them ALL the time. Oh and just a tip I noticed when you first get them wear them when you eat too that way your bite gets set quicker and it helps a lot!

I think I had my rubber bands for a year or a year and a half. Blehhhh.. I'm so glad I'll never have go to the orthodontist again. Painful memories. I feel for ya!

For me for a I guess what you could consider major overbite, it took about a year. I had braces for about half a year before getting the rubber bands and then had to wear those for about a year before getting my braces off. So if you wear them right and don't have a major overbite you should have them off no later than a year, but most likely less. You should just ask your orthodontist how long if he even knows, you'll get a better answer.
