Why do you bite your tongue?

I bite my tongue in my sleep. Anyone else have this problem?

  • This started 3 or 4 years ago and it is quite bothersome. Sometimes I bite my tongue 2 times in one night. Is there some way to stop doing this? My hygenist was going to order me a night guard and the dentist said I would just bite my tongue with the guard.

    oh my goodness...i have the exact same problem...only i bit my cheeks and tounge and drew blood...but i found that if u go to walgreens or some store like that and get a retainer like thing called The Doctor's NIghtguard it helps A LOT!!!!!!!! well...at least for me it did...it comes in 3 sizes..small, medium, large...and comes complete with instructions on how to mold it and how it should fit...hope this helps...by the way...you still might bite urself with the nightguard...but it really dulls the impact (i don't draw blood or wake up from the pain anymore) sorry for my horrible typing...i'm tired:) feel free to email me if u have any problems: [email protected]

Yes, I bite the tip of my tongue in my sleep. It keeps waking me up. When I use my sleep apnea machine I don't bite it.

I suppose everyone has done that occasionally. I have very thin blood, so when I bite my tongue I wake to blood on my pillow. It happens so rarely that I do not do anything about it. I occasionally sleep in a recliner. I think it never happens then.
