Is the dentist career hard to study?

Dentists: I start my 8yrs collage study to be a Dentist from next year. How much do I have to study each day?

  • I am currently at my last year of high school. From next year I start my 4 years in undergraduate studies followed by 4 years of Dentist school. In the end I hope to have a career in cosmetic Dentistry. I chose this profession because of the normal hours a cosmetic dentistry gets to put in followed by the huge influx of salary that I will befall me. SO, if anybody can tell me how much hours of studying I need to put in each day, including time at collage plus personal study time. Also, how much will it cost me to finish my studies? Can I get a student loan? Can I have a social life to hang out with my friends or would I have to study all the time? Also, what sort of part-time job can I get while I wait for my long 8 years to finish as my other friends start their proper profession life? Thank you for taking the time to read my question! :-D

  • Answer:

LOL Well for one you need to work on your spelling and grammar at "collage." How much time you spend studying depends on what courses you are taking. Obviously you will need to study more for organic chemistry than you'll need to study for some gen ed class like "Dinosaur science". I mean honestly, use your brain. You spend different amounts of time studying for classes in high school, right? I would try to get a part time job as a stripper since they make very very good money. As for social life, you can have one unless you are dumb and need to study 24/7.

Wow the previous answerers need to lighten up! "Collage" is a mistake made by many people, just make sure to not do it again, as it does look pretty bad. Alright here's the deal: You need to put in as much studying as you need to to succeed. I have some friends who rarely study and get phenomenal grades, and I have friends who have to study hours to get phenomenal grades! It's always better to be on the safe side and study a lot though, and of course studying will dictate your social life, so fit in friends where you can! As for the job, wait until you "get the hang" of college life and if you think you can fit it in, start somewhere flexible and small. If school work becomes too much you can always quit. College in general is very expensive. Dentistry, or any graduate school, is even more expensive! Expect to be $200,000 in debt. It's very good you want to educate yourself as much as possible before making the huge commitment, and I was impressed with how polite you were in your question. You'll make a great dentist! Best of luck
