What does standby time mean?

The Longest Sleep time for a YO-Yo. What does it mean?

  • Here are some things that I found on the websites. I don't get it when they say: "I timed it to see how long it would sleep." "The American Yo-Yo Association’s world record sleep time for a fixed axle ..." " I mean certain yo-yos sleep longer" "The SBII holds the record for the longest "sleep": 3 minutes and 12 seconds. " HOw do you do this trick?? WHat does it mean when they say your Yo-Yo can sleep longer? What does it mean?? WHat does the sleep mean? Does it mean when you just throw it in the air or do the standard trick?? If you don't know then don't say anything please. I want to find out what this means!!! Thanks!!

Okay. Well the sleep time means the time that you have to perform a trick. When you do a backhand throw. This is the most basic of all techniques because it is required in almost every trick. You toss the yo-yo from you palm and over your fingers. When you do this hard enough. The yo-yo will do whats called sleeping. In otherwards the yo-yo will not return immediately. It will stay at the very bottom of the string but will continue to spin. This is done best with the ball bearing yo-yo's or also known as an X-Brain. Just look up Yomega yo-yo's in there X-Brain yo-yo section. But anyway. While the yo-yo sleeps you can do many tricks with it. And the longest sleep record I have seen on a yo-yo is the yo-yo called the Cold Fusion. Its by Duncun. It has a sleep time of over 10 minutes. Go to this site to check it out. http://www.yoyostore.com/coldfusionyoyo.html

'Sleeping' is when the yo-yo spins at the end of the string. When you do a trick like rock the baby or walk the dog, you start of by making the yo-yo sleep. It's sleep time is the length of time it spends spinning. To do it, you make sure the yo-yo's string is on the side nearest your hand. Lift your arm as if you were showing off your muscles, turn your hand towards your head and curl it around the yo-yo. Straighten your arm and throw the yo-yo downwards. With practice, it will spin. Tug the string or just wait and the yo-yo will jump back to your hand.
