What do i need to know about toy planes as a newbie?

  Are you talking about remote control planes? Then the first thing you need to learn is that they don't call them -toys-. They are 'models'. People will laugh at you if you say 'toys' (even though that's what they are!) This is a very volatile hobby, especially at first. Your first plane doesn't often last very long because you don't know how to fly it. There are simulators you can get, a really good one from Great Planes, that will give you the feel for flying without a lot of expensive crashes. There might be a hobby shop in your area that will rent you a computer in the store with the simulator running on it, and I would do that for several hours first until I was pretty sure of myself. (Now I actually have a pilot's license, but even I had trouble with the simulator. It took me about 4-5 hrs to get the hang of it!) You want something relatively low-performance at first. An electric plane would be good. Just to get used to flying. One of the biggest problems is that the controls are reversed when the plane is flying -towards- you! If you can fly this thing confidently, keep it out of the trees, etc., then you can get whatever you want.
