What is a counter trap?

Yugioh Counter Trap Cards?

  • Ok were new at the Yugioh card game, but my boyfriend but hes getting back into it but he really sucks at rules and really telling us what is allowed or not. I have read the rule book but I want to make sure of something. One of our friends who is also new at the game put down a Counter Trap card from hand to field while it was my boyfriends turn and we really can't find were in the rule book saying you can't do that. So we need someone that had more experience in this game. So can or can you not put down a Counter Trap card from your hand to field to negate a monsters effect.

  • Answer:

    1) All traps must be placed on the field for 1 turn before you can activate it 2) You cannot play a trap from your hand like so, you must set it

Other answers

Counter Traps are Trap Cards. Trap Cards cannot be activated the turn they are set, and they cannot be activated from the hand (except under certain scenarios, like with Jetroid, like another answerer mentioned).

Izen

You cannot play any Counter Trap from the hand.

HUMAN

trap cards must be "set" (face-down) on the field for 1 turn before they are able to activate. any other card must be Set/summoned/played during your turn (Unless an effect allows you to EX: dust tornado) only spell cards can be played from the hand(besides summoning monsters) all trap cards/quick play spell cards can be activated during your opponent's turn(if they were set for 1 full turn) hope i helped
