What is that one magic card trick?

• ok this is how my friend did it, he takes the deck (my deck) and tells me to shuffle it. when i finish, he tells me to mix it up all over the table and pick 4 card, he calls out a card each time i pick one and hands it to him, ex: i pick a FACE DOWN card and then he calls out "ace of diamond" and he tell me to do this 4 times. then he picks a card and calls it out, ex: "7 of spades". so now he has 5 cards total in his hand. then, he shows all the cards in the order that he called them out, ex: "ace of diamond, queen of clubs, queen of hearts, king of spades, and 7 of spades"? how does he do this? its not a set deck and he gets it right everytime too. anyone know whats the name of the trick or how its done?

• Answer:

  This is the way I remember doing it: After you shuffle the cards, you hand it back to him briefly. He makes note of the last card at the bottom of the deck while pretending to wave his 'magic' hands over the deck. Then he hands the deck back to you - as you spread the cards, he can see where the card he made note of is placed. He tells you to pick this card. You hand him a card and he looks at whatever it is- and asks you to pick that card next - and so on - finally he will say: I'll pick the (whatever the last card you handed him was) and then he will pick up the original card he made note of. Voila, all the cards are there - you will have to get a deck of cards and do this, to understand what I mean . Note: if by slim chance you really do pick the 'trick' card (the one that was at the bottom of the deck) on the very first try - the "magician" will stop that particular round right there and then , and say "see, you picked it" !
